Zachód Księżyca 25 maja 2009 r, 31 godzin po nowiu, faza 1,8%, delikatnie widoczne światło popielate . Czasem wschodzący lub zachodzący Księżyc wydaje się nam nienaturalnie wielki i bliski, niemalże na wyciągnięcie ręki. Któż z nas nie chciałby wówczas go dotknąć ? Niemożliwe ? ... a jednak tak! Jest niewielu szczęśliwców na naszej planecie, którym udało się znaleźć kawałek skały pochodzący ze Srebrnego Globu. Ale jak skały z Księżyca znalazły się na Ziemi? Potrzebny jest ogromny meteoryt uderzający w powierzchnię Księżyca, powodując wybicie fragmentów księżycowych skał w przestrzeń kosmiczną. Krążą one tam przez wiele milionów lat, aż niektóre z nich wejdą na orbitę kolizyjną z Ziemią. Jeżeli przetrwają lot przez ziemską atmosferę, staną się meteorytami pochodzącymi z Księżyca. Ich naukowe znaczenie jest tym większe, że w znacznej części pochodzą z niezbadanych obszarów Księżyca - wyżyn na ciemnej stronie naszego satelity, księżycowych gór oraz z bazaltowych mórz. Całkowita łączna waga meteorytów, które są uznawane za fragmenty Księżyca ledwie przekracza 15 kg. Większość z meteorytów księżycowych odnaleziono na Antarktydzie, resztę na pustyniach północnej Afryki. Ich wartość sięga astronomicznych kwot.
