Na rynku, przy skrzyżowaniu głównych dróg stoi najsłynniejsza polska karczma, w której, zgodnie ze starą legendą, ożywioną w Mickiewiczowskiej balladzie, czarnoksiężnik Twardowski przegrał zakład z diabłem. "Ta karczma Rzym się nazywa, kładę areszt na waszeci" miał rzec czart, pokazując na szyld u wejścia. Jest to drewniana chałupa ogromnych rozmiarów, zbudowana na planie prostokąta, z charakterystycznym czterospadowym dachem, którego frontowa część opada nieco do przodu, wspierając się na drewnianych słupach. Utworzone w ten sposób podcienia zachęcają do przekroczenia progu. Wnętrze utrzymane jest w dawnym stylu (belki pod powałą, proste drewniane sprzęty). Można odnieść wrażenie, że czas dawno się tu zatrzymał.
