Murowany dwór w Romanowie został wzniesiony na starszych fundamentach w 1806 roku dla Błażeja Malskiego. Drogą koligacji rodzinnych dobra przeszły w ręce Kraszewskich. W końcu XIX wieku Kajetan Kraszewski (najmłodszy brat Józefa Ignacego) założył tu obserwatorium astronomiczne oraz zgromadził duży księgozbiór. Pałac był wielokrotnie niszczony pożarami. Po ostatnim w 1943 roku został odbudowany w 1958 i zamieniony na Muzeum Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego (udostępnione od 1962 roku).
