Wikipedia: Endemiczny ptak lęgowy Australii; sprowadzony został do Nowej Zelandii, gdzie częściowo jest dziś rozpowszechniony. W 1990 roku jego liczebność szacowano tam na 60 000 sztuk. Łabędzie czarne są powszechnie hodowane jako ptaki ozdobne w Europie Zachodniej, zwłaszcza w Wielkiej Brytanii. Często zdarzają się ucieczki z niewoli i obserwowano nawet lęgi na wolności, jednak jak na razie populacji nie uważa się za samopodtrzymującą się i gatunek nie został wpisany na listę brytyjskiej awifauny. W Polsce łabędzie czarne od lat 90. XX wieku były spotykane w województwach: dolnośląskim, małopolskim, wielkopolskim, warmińsko-mazurskim i zachodniopomorskim.
