Nr. 272 Kolejny kadr z cyklu "OKRUCHY MIASTA" .... sa to podcienia na Starym Rynku w Łodzi.... Stary Rynek i jego najbliższa okolica stanowiły miejsce najstarszego osadnictwa, z którego rozwinęła się dzisiejsza Łódź. Do początku XIX wieku, tj. do wytyczenia położonego kilkaset metrów na południe nowego centrum miasta - Rynku Nowomiejskiego (dzisiejszy Plac Wolności) Rynek Staromiejski stanowił centrum przedprzemysłowej Łodzi. Plac otaczała drewniana, miejska zabudowa. Także stojący tu ratusz wykonany był z drewna. W okresie tym na południe od Rynku przepływała rzeka Łódka, a na niej utworzony był staw, a przy nim młyn (w miejscu dzisiejszego parku) . Na początku XIX wieku drewniane budynki zostały zastąpione murowanymi klasycystycznymi kamienicami. W okresie II wojny światowej ta zamieszkana przez Żydów okolica weszła w skład łódzkiego getta. Po jego likwidacji otaczające Rynek domy zostały częściowo rozebrane. Prace rozbiórkowe były kontynuowane przez władze polskie po 1945 r. w celu nadania placowi nowego kształtu architektonicznego. Do połowy lat 50-tych XX wzniesiono nową zabudowę Starego Rynku w formie uproszczonego historyzmu socrealistycznego o trzech kondygnacjach, stromych dachach i z podcieniami na parterze.
