Kościół Najświętszej Marii Panny, jest głównym kościołem Gdańska, pełni rolę konkatedry archidiecezji gdańskiej, wybitnym dziełem gotyckiej architektury ceglanej i największym kościołem ceglanym pobrzeża Bałtyku (długość 105 m, wysokość wnętrza 27 m, wysokość wieży 76 m). Wewnątrz mieści się 25000 osób. Ciekawostką jest to, że przy budowie (1379-1477) tak wielkiego kościoła nie używano rusztowań (nie znano ich poprostu). Robotnicy usypywali górkę z piasku i wokół niej murowali cegły, gdy mur był już na tyle wysoki że nie sięgali do szczytu, znów dosypywali piasku. I tak do samego dachu. Po zakończeniu budowy, piasek z kościoła usunięto dolnymi wrotami.
