Czerwone nadolbrzymy są w Galaktyce niczym morskie latarnie, bardzo rzadkie, ale widoczne z ogromnych odległości. Na letnim niebie, w gwiazdozbiorze Skorpiona mruga do nas jeden z nich - Antares, (najjaśnejszy na fotografii). Ten starożytny gwiezdny gigant,odległy o 500 lat świetlnych, 740 razy większy od Słońca rezyduje na wewnętrznym brzegu jednego z ramion spiralnych Drogi Mlecznej, zwanego Ramieniem Oriona, do którego należy także nasze Słońce. Za Antaresem rozciąga się już ciemność, ciemność obszaru pomiędzy ramionami Oriona i Strzelca. Trzy tysiące lat świetlnych dalej rozpościera się potężne Ramię Strzelca ,(polecam poprzednie zdjęcie - Pukając do nieba bram), na którym jest ono dobrze widoczne. Daleko, za Ramieniem Strzelca znajduje się ostateczny cel naszej wędrówki - centrum Galaktyki, a w nim pełna egzotyka.
