Budynek ten powstał jako Kościół św. Mikołaja - drugi kościół, jaki powstał w Słupsku. Nie wiadomo dokładnie kiedy, ale wiadomo, że najpierw powstał drewniany a potem w to miejsce murowany. Konstrukcja murowana kościoła zaczyna być wznoszona od 1311 roku. W roku 1665 wielki pożar strawił klasztor i kościół, pozostały jedynie mury. Dopiero w 1673 roku nakryto ruiny kościoła dachem aby zabezpieczyć mury. Na dalszy remont zabrakło środków. Kościół oderwany od klasztoru popadał w coraz większą ruinę, taki stan utrzymywał się przez 200 lat. Dopiero w 1955 roku sporządzono inwentaryzację pomiarową gotyckich ruin kościoła św. Mikołaja. Na początku lat 60. XX w. powstała idea odbudowy kościoła z przeznaczeniem na potrzeby biblioteki. W 1965 roku rozpoczęto remont budowli. Uroczyste otwarcie biblioteki po tych wszystkich pracach miało miejsce 10 września 1971 roku. Zdjęcie wykonane aparatem „Start”; papier Fotonbrom; czas 15minut; przysłona f/4.0.
