Wśród tysięcy zdjęć oferowanych do sprzedaży można znaleźć i takie, które dokumentują zawody oraz pracę. Bardzo cenię takie fotografie, gdyż są to dla mnie nieme świadectwa minionych czasów. Świadectwa na to, że świat nie stał w miejscu, rozwijał się w każdej dziedzinie, biegł do przodu. Na prezentowanym zdjęciu dwie maszyny. Dwa walce parowe z okresu międzywojennego. Jako że temat wydaje się być na czasie, to przy okazji prezentacji tej fotografii chciałbym w kilku słowach przedstawić pewne ciekawostki dotyczące budowy dróg. Jak to się zaczęło? Pierwsze próby układania nawierzchni z masy asfaltowej podejmowano w połowie XIX stulecia. W 1864 r. w Paryżu ułożono nawierzchnię asfaltową z asfaltu naturalnego tzw. ubijanego (wapień przesycony asfaltem). Z takiego asfaltu wykonywano nawierzchnie jezdne również w Polsce pod koniec XIX wieku. Po I wojnie światowej zaczęto używać ulepszonego amerykańskiego lepiszcza asfaltu naftowego, a później krajowego. Pierwszą udaną nawierzchnię asfaltową, do budowy której zastosowano wyłącznie asfalt naftowy polski z ropy Borysławskiej, ułożyła Państwowa Fabryka Olejów Mineralnych w Drohobyczu POLMIN. Nawierzchnia powstała w 1929 r. na drodze nr 9/11 (Stryj - Drohobycz) w km 24-26. Po uzyskaniu niepodległości, w 1923 opracowano XX- letni plan rozbudowy dróg, który m.in. zakładał wybudowanie 60 tys. km dróg bitych i brukowanych. Ze względu na koszty trudno było ten plan zrealizować, jednak i tak zrobiono bardzo dużo. W okresie międzywojennym zbudowano 20 tys. km dróg. Według stanu na dzień 1 stycznia 1939 r. w Polsce było 64,5 tys. km dróg o twardej nawierzchni (w tym o ulepszonej nawierzchni 3,5 tys. km). Fotografia czarno-biała, DOP, tonowanie.
