Dobrze wszystkim znanym dźwiękiem jest rechotanie żab oraz rzekotek. Należy jednak pamiętać że rechot ten pochodzi od samców płazów. W letnie wieczory głos wydawany przez rzekotki jest to najgłośniejszy dźwięk w okolicy jezior i stawów, słyszany nawet w odległości kilku kilometrów. Rzekotki (Hyla) i ropuchy (Bufo) mają pojedyncze rezonatory umieszczone w gardzieli, żaby zielone (Pelophylax) mają duże parzyste rezonatory, które rozciągają się po obu stronach głowy, a żaby brunatne (Rana) mają natomiast tylko pojedyncze rezonatory podskórne, mieszczące się w podszczękowych workach limfatycznych i emitujące jedynie słabe dźwięki. Osobliwe piskliwe dźwięki wydaje grzebiuszka (Pelobates) (niestety jeszcze nie miałem okazji obserwować jej w naturalnym środowisku).
