Nr 452. Pierwotnie miejscowość nazywała się Hylderodsholm (przekształcone na Hillerodsholm) i rozwinęła się wokół zamku, który od XVII w. stał się podmiejską rezydencją królów Danii. W 1630 r. otrzymała gimnazjum, a w 1732 r. prawa miasta kupieckiego. W 1834 r. większość Hillerod spłonęła. Po uzyskaniu połączenia kolejowego z Kopenhagą w 1860 r. nastąpił ponowny rozwój miasta. Zbudowano szpital, zakłady mleczarskie, powstało wiele szkół oraz baza hotelowa. Zamek Frederiksborg (na zdjęciu) jest siedzibą królów Danii, znajdującą się na trzech małych wyspach pośrodku jeziora. Posesja została nabyta w 1560 r. przez króla Fryderyka II, który rozpoczął budowę nazwanego swoim imieniem zamku na jeziorze. Większość zamku została jednak zbudowana na pocz. XVII w. przez Chrystiana IV w stylu renesansu niderlandzkiego i odtąd zamek służył jako podmiejska rezydencja królewska. W kaplicy zamkowej odbyły się koronacje wielu królów i królowych Danii. Zamek spłonął w 1859 r., ale został odbudowany i od 1878 r. funkcjonuje jako Muzeum Narodowo-Historyczne (Nationalhistoriske Museum) posiadające bogatą kolekcję
