Ukrytym przed ludźmi cudem architektury sakralnej jest w Giełczynie drewniany kościół. W 1777 r. drwale trzebiący puszczę wybudowali świątynię, z najtrwalszego dębowego drewna. Dach był pokryty trzciną. Kościół trwał w tej postaci aż do ostatniej wojny, gdy Niemcy paląc wieś nie oszczędzili też obiektu kultu religijnego. Biedni parafianie odbudowali swój kościół. Jest taki sam, jak niegdyś, tylko strzechę zastąpiła blacha. Ale to w tym maleńkim kościele pw. Narodzenia NMP w Giełczynie widywano młodziutką pensjonarkę Marię Skłodowską (później Curie), naszą sławną noblistkę. W 1884 r. była ona gościem zamożnej rodziny de Fleury z okolic Giełczyna. Późniejsza noblistka bywała w dworze na Kępie. Stąd Ludwik de Fleury przywoził Marysię Skłodowską na msze do Giełczyna.
