Gniazdo raniuszka jest jednym z najciekawszych gniazd budowanych przez nasze ptaki. Przypomina one ciepły jakby "polarowy kokon" w kształcie dużego jaja, z małym wejściem znajdującym się u góry. Upleciony jest z mchów, włókien roślin i pajęczyny. Jaja składane są już w marcu więc musi gniazdo musi być bardzo ciepłe. Dodatkowo wewnątrz okrywane są kołderką z piór. Raniuszki zbierają je w miejscach, gdzie ptaki drapieżne ucztują i pozostawiają resztki swoich ofiar, stąd w pojedynczym gnieździe może znaleźć się nawet 2000 piór. Karmieniem głodnych piskląt zajmują się przede wszystkim rodzice, lecz czasem pomagają im także inne raniuszki, które nie doczekało się swoich lęgów. Obserwowano również raniuszki usiłujące karmić pisklęta bogatki czy dokarmiające małe trznadle ;) Podobno te altruistyczne zachowanie zwiększają szanse przeżycia raniuszków. Raniuszek jest symbolem Ogólnopolskiego Towarzystwa Ochrony Ptaków. Logo OTOP, zaprojektowane przez Jerzego Desselbergera, po raz pierwszy zaprezentowano na łamach kwartalnika "Ptaki" w 1993 roku. Od tamtego czasu jest herbem organizacji.
