Pierwsza myśl przy teleskopie, padczas spojrzenia na wyświetlacz aparatu w czasie fotografowania tego obiektu - złe wyostrzenie, większośś gwiazd rozmyta..., okazała sie błędna. Ta większość gwiazd w rzeczywistosci nimi nie jest. Teleskop wycelowany był w kierunku bieguna naszej Drogi Mlecznej, w miejsce bardzo ubogie w gwiazdy i patrzył na supergromadę galaktyk Coma, (Abell1656), w gwiazdozbiorze Warkocz Bereniki. Mgliste plamki i punkty na fotografii to około 300 galaktyk z gromady liczącej ich ponad 3000. Niektóre z nich mają rozmiar 200 000 lat świetlnych i zawierają setki miliardów gwiaz. Gromada Coma oddalona jest od nas o 300 milionów lat świetlnych i ucieka z prędkoscią 25 milionów km/h, co jest oczywiście związane z ekspansją Wszechświata i teorią Wielkiego Wybuchu.
