Pierwszy kościół w Jaminach zbudowano w 1755 r. na polecenie Teodory z Sołtanów, wdowy po Jerzy Sapiesze, wojewodzie mścisławskim i właścicielu wsi nadbiebrzańskich w Puszczy Jaminy. Był to kościół drewniany p.w. św. Mateusza Apostoła. W 1789 r. kościół ten wraz z całym wyposażeniem spłąnął. W tym samym roku król Stanisław August nakazał budowę nowego kościoła. Do realizacji tego zamierzenia jednak nie doszło, a przygotowane drewno zostało wykorzystane do budowy kościoła w Suchowoli. Zbudowano natomiast prowizoryczną kaplicę krytą słomą. Po rozebraniu kaplicy zbudowano w 1849 r. kościół istniejący do dnia dzisiejszego. Przy jego budowie wykorzystano materiał z rozebranego kościoła w Augustowie, pochodzącego z 1778 r. Czy ołtarz główny pochodzi z Augustowskiego kościoła, trudno jest w sposób jednoznaczny określić. Wiadomo, że 1853 r. ołtarz ten istniał. Ołtarz boczny z obrazem Matki Bożej istniał już w 1853 r. i można przypuszczać, że został przeniesiony wraz z kościołem. Ołtarz św. Mateusza Apostoła był wtedy jeszcze prowizoryczny, gdyż był w budowie. Jednak w roku 1869 już istniał w całości wraz z obrazem patrona parafii św. Mateusza Apostoła. Na cmentarzu znajduje się 26 zabytkowych nagrobków.
