Elektrownia Battersea jest największą budowlą z cegły w Europie. Zaprojektowana przez Sir Gillesa Gilberta, który był również autorem projektu podobnej elektrowni w murach której mieści się obecnie galeria sztuki współczesnej Tate Modern oraz co ciekawe klasycznej czerwonej londyńskiej budki telefonicznej. Budynek powstawał w dwóch etapach: pierwszy ukończono w 1939r, drugi w 1955r. Wnętrza wyłożone były włoskim marmurem, a pomieszczenia techniczne, sale turbin mozaiką. Pokój kontrolny zaprojektowano w stylu Art Deco. W momencie otwarcia elektrownia wytwarzała moc 105MGW i była największa elektrownią w Europie. Została zamknięta ostatecznie w 1983r z powodu nieopłacalności Od 1980r zaliczona do dziedzictwa narodowego Wielkiej Brytanii i jest pod ochroną miejscowych władz. Zdjęcie zrobione 2008.07.25.
