Astacus astacus L. - rak szlachetny zwany również rakiem rzecznym, szerokoszczypcowym, krótkoszczypcowym, lub szewcem. Osobnik ze zdjęcia był obserwowany przeze mnie kilka dni temu na Żywiecczyźnie. Oto smutna historia jego przodków: Pogłowie gatunków europejskich raków zostało zdziesiątkowane po przejściu w drugiej połowie XIX wieku epizoocji dżumy raczej która wywoływana jest grzybem żyjącym w wodzie - Aphanomyces astaci. Jej nawroty lokalnie obserwuje się do dzisiaj. Po wygaśnięciu tej epidemii, niekontrolowana eksploatacja pogłowia raków (ilość eksportowanych raków z terenu Polski osiągnęła maksimum w 1927 roku i wyniosła 611 ton raków!!!), stale postępujące uprzemysłowienia krajów, powodujących zanieczyszczenie wód, stale wzrastająca intensyfikacja rolnictwa, w tym stosowanie insektycydów, oraz introdukcja do wód Polski i krajów Europy gatunkówi raków amerykańskich (nosicieli Aphanomyces astaci) w tym raka pręgowatego (Orconectes limosus Raf.), DOPROWADZIŁY NASZE RAKI NA SKRAJ ZAGŁADY!!!
