Nigardsbreen - jest częścią największego w kontynentalnej Europie lodowca Jostedalsbreen i zarazem jednym z jego największych jęzorów (48 km2). Lodowiec nie jest statyczny, cały czas pozostaje w ruchu, kurczy się i rozpręża. Posuwa się w dół doliny, jak rzeka w powolnym ruchu. O szybkości tego ruchu decyduje ilość nagromadzonego śniegu w każdym roku. Niestety topnienie powoduje, że ruch ten nie jest jednakowy o każdej porze roku. Na posuwanie się bądź kurczenie się lodowca wpływ ma równowaga pomiędzy topnieniem a \\"rośnięciem\\" lodowca. W ubiegłch latach Nigardsbreen tak przyrósł, że gdyby schodził w dół doliny z taką samą prędkością w ciągu najbliższych lat, ponownie dotarłby do pobliskiego jeziora.
