Zorza polarna (aurora borealis), 30 października 2003 r , Polska . Mamy już nowy cykl słoneczny, więc może już wkrótce zorze polarne pojawią się pownie u nas. Tym razem przedstawiam zdjęcie zorzy polarnej widocznej w Polsce 30 października 2003 roku. Zorza wywołana została przez obłok wyrzucanych ze Słońca wysokoenergetycznych cząstek, które zderzały się z ziemską magnetosferą. Zderzenia były następstwem intensywnego rozbłysku słonecznego i koronalnego wyrzutu materii (ang. Coronal Mass Ejection, CME) wykrytego 28 października. Dzięki niemu wielu obserwatorów nieba mogło podziwiać przyjemny dla oka pokaz świateł także w Polsce. Była to jedna z najbardziej intensywnych zórz jakie obserwowałem, dzięki temu mogłem cieszyć się burzliwą pogodą kosmiczną przez wiele godzin, będąc pod wrażeniem tego barwnego zjawiska świateł z północy - produkowanych przez wzbudzone atomy tlenu i azotu odziaływujące z energetycznymi elektronami na wysokościach 100 i więcej kilometrów. Na zdjęciu jasne gwiazdy przeświecają przez wysoko położoną poświatę, a znacznie niższe chmury rysują się ciemno na ich tle. W całej okazałości widoczne gwiazdy należące do konstelacji m.in.
