Hrad znany i lubiany, niedaleko na wschód od Żyliny, położony na stromej kalcytowej skale na lewym brzegu Wagu. Najstarsze mury pamiętają jeszcze XIV wiek, kiedy tu właśnie pobierano myto przy przeprawie na drugi brzeg rzeki; dziś jest tam kładka dla pieszych i rowerzystów, nieco dalej w przeciwnym kierunku most kolejowy, przeprawa dla zmotoryzowanych gdzieś znacznie dalej. Najlepsze lata zamku przypadły na wiek XV i XVI. Pod koniec XVII wieku został zburzony na rozkaz cesarza Leopolda, który stłumił powstanie antyhabsburskie Imre Thökölygo, który nosił tytuły księcia Górnych Węgier, Środkowych Węgier, a od września 1690 księcia Siedmiogrodu. Mozolna i miejscami nieco toporna (sporo betonowej wylewki i klinkieru) rekonstrukcja zamku dobiegła końca w 1995 i wtedy też udostępniono go zwiedzającym; dziś doświadczamy tam wszystkich wad i zalet prohlídky s průvodcem, włącznie z występem muzyków w strojach z epoki. A najfajniejsze i tak były okoliczności towarzyszące zrobieniu zdjęcia: wracałem z pobliskiego Martina ze skansenu wsi słowackiej, gdzie nie zdążyłem na przesiadkę (nie tylko PKP się spóźnia :/) na osobný vlak i musiałem jechać pośpiesznym do Żyliny tylko po to, by tam przesiąść się po godzinnym oczekiwaniu na ostatni osobowy i wrócić do stacji Varin w połowie drogi, gdzie mieliśmy noclegi... Jednak tuż po wyjechaniu z tunelu w okolicy ruin pośpiech się zatrzymał. Krótka narada, otwieramy drzwi i wyskakujemy na stromy nasyp w całkowitej ciemności przy akompaniamencie pokrzykiwań, chichotów i wszelkich komentarzy współpasażerów... Parę minut b. ostrożnego stąpania po omacku, sesja ze statywem i nieoczekiwanie wczesny powrót na kemping :)
