Obłoki srebrzyste (Noctilucent clouds, NLC) sfotografowane 17 czerwca 2007, godz. 23.50 . Obłoki srebrzyste to bardzo efemeryczne i stosunkowo rzadko występujące zjawisko. W tym roku widoczne były tylko kilka razy. Pojawiają się nieoczekiwanie, są widoczne czasem zaledwie przez kilkanaście minut, najczęściej przez kilka godzin. Są widoczne zawsze na północnej stronie nieba wkrótce po zmierzchu lub przed świtem. Mogą występować tylko w okresie przesilenia letniego. Obłoki srebrzyste to polarne chmury mezosferyczne. Ulokowane są na wysokości 80-100km ponad powierzchnią Ziemi, w górnych warstwach mezosfery, gdzie występuje temp. -120 stopni C. Pochodzenie obłoków srebrzystych i ich natura do dziś nie jest wyjaśniona. W celu poznania ich natury NASA wysłała na orbitę sondę AIM (Aeronomy of Ice In the Mesosphere). I tutaj pochwalę się, a co...NASA wykorzystała to zdjęcie w krótkim filmie o misji AIM, który szedł jako news we wszystkich najważniejszych kanałach amerykańskiej TV. Kiedyś w Norwegii zrobiłem podobne zdjęcie. Z tego, co piszesz, to obłoki srebrzyste występują tylko w czerwcu, ja swoje zdjęcie zrobiłem w lipcu.
